Agri View: Pork Exports to China

Everett Griner talks about U.S. pork exports to China in today’s Agri View.

The general population of China is becoming wealthier. Now that is a statement from the Chinese government. In one respect, it is a bonus for the American farmers. It may sound strange to us but the Chinese preference for antibiotics in livestockmeat is pork. Did you know it cost twice as much to produce pork in China as it does in the U.S.? The natural result is more pork exports to China. What I am thinking is it makes it cost more to produce hogs in China.

They have stricter environmental regulations. And the land is more useful for other crops. One source says it cost twice as much to raise a hog in China as it does in America. Now as long as these factors are in effect, China will continue to import a lot of pork. And, most of it will come from the U.S. That is positive for the corn, soybean and pork farmers.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
