Almonds are the next crop researchers will focus on to see if orchards can handle winter flooding that will help replenish underground aquifers.
Winter Flooding Project To Test Almonds
UC Davis research is looking at flooding certain crops during winter months to help capture more storm water runoff. The project is currently testing alfalfa and grapes and has seen positive results so far due to the winter dormancy of those crops. With help from a recent grant, UC Davis Integrated Hydrological Sciences Assistant Professor Helen Dahlke says the research will test Central Valley almond orchards this winter.
