A bill before state lawmakers would force state agencies to buy California produce rather than getting produce from other states. Sabrina Hill explains.

It’s called the Choose California Act, and last week the Assembly’s Agriculture Committee unanimously approved the bill. The bill would require state agencies like prisons to buy produce and livestock products from California, if it was within 5 percent of the lowest bid. Similar bills have been introduced in the past, but did not make it past former governors’ desks.
