Self-fertile almond varieties are becoming more popular as time goes on and the more the industry produces. Independence is the most popular self-fertile variety in the industry with enough time and production on the market to find it’s niche. Shasta is another out of the Central Valley and Blue Diamond Growers Membership Development Manager Ben Goudie said it’s still early but we are starting to see Shasta’s characteristics in the field. Many nurseries say more self-fertile varieties are on the way.
