The University of California is hosting the 37th Rice Technical Working Group Conference, February 19 through February 22 in Long Beach.  The event will feature several committee meetings on various topics, multiple keynote speakers discussing industry concerns, and numerous technical sessions.Rice Technical Working Group Conference

The first day of the conference will begin with executive, rice acreage and germplasm committee meetings.  The afternoon will feature a rice irrigation symposium focused on water use and greenhouse gas management.  There is also a panel chair and moderator meeting scheduled at Noon.  The opening reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.

The opening business meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20 and will be followed up with an official welcome from Glenda Humiston, Vice President of the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR).  A series of keynote speakers will be addressing subjects such as global food security and the relationship between waterfowl and rice.  A symposium on the application of genomic technologies is scheduled for later that evening.

The awards luncheon will take place at Noon on Wednesday, February 21.  The rest of the day has multiple technical sessions covering topics such as the development of biological agents that promote rice health and growth, along with the influence of infrared radiation heating on physicochemical characteristics.  Executive committee and closing business meetings are scheduled for the following morning.
