California’s pear season is winding down, and many growers are reporting that it’s been a good year. Main growing regions are in the northern parts of the state. There’s a field day coming up this month for pear growers. It’s by the University of California Cooperative Extension and the California Pear Advisory Board. The field day is planned for Tuesday, October 22 from 10 am to noon at Shadowbrook Farms in Mendocino County. This year’s California pear crop is estimated to be about 4.5 million 36-pound-tight-fill cartons, which is up from last year.
