New rootstocks can take some time for growers to see their true characteristics, and one almond rootstock is showing some water sensitivity.

Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor Emeritus Joseph Connell says the new rootstock has qualities beneficial for the northern part of the state’s almond production. Connell says some growers are seeing yellowing in those trees, however, and the rootstock is showing sensitivity to excess water during the warmer weather.
