Some areas in the state have been forced to look at micro-sprinklers for irrigation in strawberry fields due to water restrictions. Integrated Pest Management Farm Advisor Surendra Darr has an ongoing trial looking into those sprinklers, and Water Management Consultant with RDO Water Danilu Ramirez says they saw promising numbers right off the bat.
Ramirez says the water savings isn’t the reason why they were introducing the sprinklers to the central coast, but after the trial produced the types of numbers it has it gives the new system added benefits.

Ramirez added that several extra benefits from the sprinklers are intriguing to organic growers.
