The House Ag Committee had their farm bill markup yesterday, a day after the senate’s markup. The committee voted to keep the dairy supply program, which was dropped from their version of the bill last year. Speaker John Boehner of Ohio opposed the program, saying it was “Soviet-style.”

Meanwhile, Chairman Frank Lucas discussed the point of bipartisan cooperation during his opening statements. He said the committee will “mark up a reform-minded farm bill that was developed with true bipartisanship.” He went on to say they’ll advance it with both Republican and Democratic votes. And, that they will achieve nearly $40 billion in savings by eliminating outdated government programs and reforming others.
