Today we are talking about cashews. This edible kidney-shaped nut comes from a tropical evergreen tree.  Cashew nuts, often simply called a cashew, is widely consumed as a snack. They also are used in recipes or processed into cashew cheese or cashew butter.

Cashews are rich in oil and protein. They are a creamy and rich alternative to dairy products. They also possess a multitude of health benefits.  Such as fighting heart disease and promoting strong bones, They’re a healthy source of fat and they are great for skin and blood and improve eye health. Cashews are loaded with nutrients like vitamins K, E, and B6, as well as minerals like zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron, and selenium.  An ounce of cashew is about 157 calories per one ounce serving.

Since cashew requires a frost-free tropical climate, planting in the US is limited to extreme south Florida, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. There is no commercial production in the United States, though cashews are grown in botanical collections and some home landscapes.
