The USDA is working to ensure future sustainability of the nation’s dairy farms by providing $10-million in grants to research universities. The money will fund the FarmSmart research program.

“What this research is aimed at is a variety of things to improve efficiencies on the farm and other research methods that will bring value to dairy farmers,” said Tom Gallagher, CEO of Dairy Management Inc. He says the FarmSmart research will provide valuable decision-making tools for dairy farmers.

“We couldn’t be more excited – it couldn’t have been done without the farmer funded checkoff program, Dairy Management Incorporated, and all the state and regional organizations we work with,” Gallagher said.
