Agri View: Population and Food Production

Dan Agri View, Water

Everett Griner talks about the population growth and demands on food production in today’s Agri View.

Population and Food Production

There is more than one source that keeps reminding us that population growth will put demands on food production that will be difficult for farmers to achieve. Now it should be obvious that doubling food production will require more than just seed, plants and fertilizer. It will take almost twice as much energy. That is not the most difficult part of the problem. Science can give us those two builders. But the most important to doubling food production is water. Knowledgeable sources say it will take at least 30 percent more fresh water to reach projected food goals. That problem is unforeseeable but it will be impacted by climate change. Climate change is affecting our water supply right now. And it isn’t likely to get any better.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner
