Everett Griner talks about hobby farming. A new kind of farmer in today’s Agri View.
There is a growing new type of farmer. And, it is drawing a lot of attention. It was described to me as ‘hobby farmers’. These are people who have worked in several occupations but were never farmers. They don’t own a lot of acreage. Just enough land to grow food crops and raise animals. Some farms are as small as 20 acres. Some larger.
Now, these are people who want to stay busy but not at the work they retired from. Raising animals is very popular. Not the type of animals you generally associate with farming. The list includes alpacas, llamas, certain breeds of goats, and of course horses. Even pigs. Not litters. Just a couple of pigs. Not for profit.
It is just something for retired people to stay busy.
Sounds pretty good to me.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
