Contaminated Recall

If there’s anything you don’t want in your house its contaminated food but in a world of mass production, it’s bound to happen. It’s not unusual at all for the stakes that cause contamination to occur and when it does the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issues a recall and all sales are halted.

But there’s a problem. It frequently takes the FDA months to issue that recall. It’s serious enough that one U.S. Senator is pressuring the FDA to make some changes immediately. But here is something most people don’t know. Up until 11 years ago, the FDA had no authority to halt the sale of any retail product.

Eleven years is a long time. The senator thinks the problem should have already been corrected. Find a problem and halt all sales immediately. That’s how it should be, but it isn’t.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner
