Is it Trash or Organic?

Do you really know what you’re throwing away? Sadly, statistics show that the United States is extremely wasteful and hard on the planet. When only about 5 percent of the world’s population is producing 30 percent of its trash, something is organichorribly out of whack. An even bigger problem is that a large percentage of the trash we produce should never see a garbage can. It can either be recycled or composted.

Organic material is something that we shouldn’t be throwing away. That’s why it’s so important to take just a little bit of time to separate what should go in the trash, and what shouldn’t.

Among the few good reasons it makes sense to separate real trash from recyclables? It saves money on trash service, cuts down on plastic, reduces emissions, prevents ground contamination, and you can create your own homemade compost with it.

On Tomorrow’s This Land, why it’s so important to not toss organic material into the landfill.
