Questioning Quarantines with New ACP Finds

Three Asian citrus psyllids have been caught in central California. One was found in Kern County south of Bakersfield. The other two were found in Tulare County, one inside city limits and the other at a Dinuba packing shed. Tulare County Ag Commissioner Marilyn Kinoshita says the Dinuba packing shed is located at least 5 miles outside of the closest ACP quarantine boundary. Kinoshita has said before that with so much of the county under quarantines that a county-wide boundary may be the best option as the industry is finding it difficult to operate.

Kinoshita is notifying the industry and asking for public comment at the Tulare County Ag Policy Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow at 4 p.m. where she will formally bring up the idea of the full county quarantine as opposed to the current five mile expansion method. If you cannot make the meeting, you can contact Kinoshita at the Agriculture Commissioner’s office to share your comments.
