The Center for Irrigation Technology (CIT) at Fresno State hosts an irrigation workshop series throughout the year. At a recent pump efficiency workshop, Education Manager Bill Green told growers that the Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program (APEP) was once again being extended as more money has been allocated by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E).
Pump Efficiency Program Extended Again
The APEP has been operating for more than a decade and proves the need to retrofit and modernize the amount of pumping systems that are operating well below efficiency standards. CIT will run a test on your pump to see where it stands on the efficiency scale. The APEP not only subsidizes some of that cost, but it also provides growers with more potential money-saving options if repairs need to be done.
These tests are only for pumps above 25 horsepower; however PG&E has now created another rebate for any pump under 25 horsepower. Green says the program has obviously proven popular since it continues to be extended and is a great opportunity to help with the cost of anyone looking to upgrade their pumps.
