Proceeds from Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend to Benefit Scholarship Program

—Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend, held April 17-19 at Castoro Cellars in Paso Robles, will donate a portion of its proceeds to benefit the Vineyard Team Scholarship program.

Scholarships are open to 2015 graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled college students. Students whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are vineyard workers employed or contracted by a member of the Vineyard Team are invited to apply. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence and financial need. Awards will range from $500 – $2,500 per student. The number of scholarships awarded will be based on fund availability. All applications must be received no later than Friday, March 27th, 2015.

“The Vineyard Team and Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend strive to protect both natural and human resources, and this scholarship represents or strong commitment to the people part of sustainability,” said Executive Director Kris Beal. “Education is an essential component of sustainability, and our scholarship offers a way for our workers and their families to further their educational goals. We created Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend to shine a spotlight on the commitment of our local farmers to sustainable practices, so it makes sense that the proceeds would support our scholarships.”

To apply for the Vineyard Team Educational Scholarship, students must complete an application and submit via mail or email. A personal statement, official transcript, SAT scores, and letter of recommendation must be attached to the application to be considered.

Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend was created by The Vineyard Team and their organization Sustainability in Practice (SIP). The Vineyard Team is a 501(c)3 non-profit grower group dedicated to providing education and resources to promote sustainable winegrowing. For the last 20 years the Vineyard Team has built a network of 300 local farmers, all committed to sustainable vineyard practices. Earth Day Food & Wine Weekend is designed to offer consumers an opportunity to make the connection between sustainable practices and their food sources in a relaxed, celebratory setting that showcases delicious food and world-class wine.
