California Egg Production

poultryCalifornia’s egg production during June totaled 288 million, down 12 million from May’s production but up 20 million from June 2015. The all layers during the month totaled 12.4 million, down 1 percent from last month, but up 5 percent from June 2015. Eggs per 100 layers during the month were 2,329, compared to 2,400 a month earlier, and 2,272 in June 2015.

U.S. June Egg Production

United States egg production totaled 8.21 billion during June 2016, up 9 percent from last year. Production included 7.10 billion table eggs, and 1.11 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.02 billion were broiler-type and 96 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during June 2016 averaged 359 million, up 8 percent from last year. June egg production per 100 layers was 2,285 eggs, up 1 percent from June 2015.

All layers in the United States on July 1, 2016 totaled 358 million, up 8 percent from last year. The 358 million layers consisted of 300 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 54.4 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.70 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on July 1, 2016, averaged 76.1 eggs per 100 layers, up 1 percent from July 1, 2015.

U.S. Broiler-Type Chicks Hatched

Broiler-type chicks hatched during June 2016 totaled 789 million, up slightly from June 2015. Eggs in incubators totaled 650 million on July 1, 2016, down slightly from a year ago.

Leading breeders placed 8.56 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during June 2016, up 10 percent from June 2015.

U.S. Egg-Type Chicks Hatched

Egg-type chicks hatched during June 2016 totaled 58.1 million, up 23 percent from June 2015. Eggs in incubators totaled 44.1 million on July 1, 2016, up 1 percent from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 244 thousand during June 2016, down 24 percent from June 2015.

U.S. Turkey Hatchery Production

Turkey eggs in incubators on July 1, 2016, in the United States totaled 29.7 million, up 8 percent from July 1, 2015. Eggs in incubators were down 1 percent from the June 1, 2016 total of 30.0 million eggs.

Turkey poults hatched during June 2016, in the United States totaled 25.0 million, up 8 percent from June 2015. Poults hatched were up 6 percent from the May 2016 total of 23.5 million poults.

The 24.5 million net poults placed during June 2016 in the United States were up 6 percent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up 6 percent from the May 2016 total of 23.0 million.

U.S. Poultry and Egg Prices

The June market egg price, at $0.23 per dozen, decreased 1.1 cents from May and is 169.0 cents below June 2015. The June broiler price, at 58.0 cents per pound, is up 2.0 cent from May and 4.0 cents below a year earlier. The June turkey price at 86.5 cents per pound is up 3.4 cents from May and up 5.3 cents from June 2015.
