It’s been an interesting but long week here in Washington D. C. Like other farm groups in town this week our modest group of farm broadcasters from across the land hit a rare moment with both Senate and House Ag Committee Markup sessions for the Farm Bill happening just one day apart. It appears this may be the first time ever the timing has worked out that way. As always, the key lawmakers involved with agricultural policy were most gracious and accessible for our news coverage. The exclusive concert for our farm broadcasters earlier this week in the House Ag Committee chambers by Former House Ag Chairman Colin Peterson and his “2nd Amendments” band, which includes a handful of Peterson’s colleagues in Congress, was a real treat. We have numerous reports on the website from the week’s visits, including a number of complete interviews that our region’s farm producers may want to update themselves on as the big floor debates are yet to come in both Chambers. The Senate is expected to have floor debate as early as the next week or two, and House leaders say they will schedule the Farm Bill for floor debate in June. In Washington DC this week for Southeast AgNet, I’m Gary Cooper.
