Tyson Foods will start requiring their beef and chicken suppliers to meet the same on-farm requirements for animal treatment that are already in place for their hog producers. Randall Weiseman has more.

It goes into effect next year. A third party auditor will visit farms to ensure compliance, see how workers handle animals, whether animals have access to adequate food and water, and whether treatment is humane. Tyson officials say basically, it’s just a matter of documenting the already strong practices suppliers are currently using.
