A new manual is available with information about management practices for non-chemical weed control. The manual from the California Invasive Plant Council contains descriptions of 21 of the commonly used non-chemical weed control techniques. It also provides information about biological control agents for 18 different weed species and species groups. Funding for the manual was made possible through the California Department of Pesticide Regulation Alliance Grants Program.
The Best Management Practices for Non-Chemical Weed Control manual incorporates compiled research from knowledgeable experts, with detailed information on application practices and analysis of the efficacy of different techniques under a variety of conditions. Some of the contents include controlling plants by cutting, removing whole plants, covering plants with sheet barriers, and controlling plants in place. An online resource is also being developed that will include an individual best management practices decision tool.
