New labeling to get romaine lettuce back on store shelves should help in the future if outbreaks occur. The Center for Disease Control now recommends that romaine lettuce grown outside of California’s Central Coast can again be sold by retailers if the product is labeled as such. Produce Marketing Association’s Chief Science and Technology Officer Bob Whitaker said this labeling could be something very beneficial for the industry, especially with future recalls and warnings.
