Cathy Isom tells us all about the natural foods with the fastest healing power for those who may had too much fun ringing in the New Year. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Of course time and plenty of water is the obvious choice when it comes to dealing with a New Year’s Day hangover. But some natural foods may also help speed up the healing process. Like Lemons. They help get rid of the after-effects of excessive drinking like queasiness, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound, and muscle pain. Lemon helps rebalance the body, by controlling the blood sugar level and altering the pH level. Another excellent cure for hangover symptoms is honey. Being rich in potassium, honey helps counteract the effects of drinking too much alcohol.
In addition, honey contains fructose, a type of sugar that helps metabolize the extra alcohol in the body, in turn reducing hangover symptoms. Eating some slices of plain toast with an egg is also a good way to get over hangover symptoms. The carbohydrates in toast are a good source of recovery nutrients. Wash that down with a glass of Tomato juice. It contains fructose, a type of sugar that helps your body metabolize alcohol more quickly.
