Cathy Isom informs us about a week dedicated to protecting agriculture’s most valuable resource. Its people. That story is ahead on This Land of Ours.
National Farm Safety Week
This week is National Farm Safety & Health Week. It’s a time for everyone involved in agriculture to reflect and revisit the importance of safety on farms and ranches. The theme of this year’s 74th annual event is “Putting Farm Safety into Practice.”
Farming ranks as the most dangerous industry in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, every year there are 20 farm work-related deaths for every one hundred thousand workers. That’s six times higher than the combined average for all U-S workers.
Each day of the week will address different safety topics, including Child/Youth Health and Safety, Confined Spaces in Agriculture, as well as Rural Roadway Safety. To learn more check out N-E-C-A-S-AG-dot-org.
