With the big health alert involving California poultry producer Foster Farms, it’s a good time to remember safe meat handling.

The health alert is due to a Salmonella outbreak associated with raw chicken products produced by three Foster Farms facilities. So far, nearly 280 illnesses have been reported, in 18 states. Most of the illnesses are here in California.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reminds consumers to follow package cooking instructions and make sure to reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
