The local-food push and the growing popularity of small farm venues has triggered a county farm bureau to create a new education program.
San Diego County has a healthy small farm and farmers market industry and the farm bureau saw the growing trend from California consumers to be more educated on where your food comes from. Membership and Projects Manager Casey Anderson said they had been kicking an idea around to start a reoccurring farm tour for consumers named ‘Friends of Farming’. Anderson says the program has been hugely successful and other farm bureaus are looking into doing the same. Besides advertising local products from local growers, Anderson says the program is slowly dissolving that disconnect between the agriculture industry and the general public.
