As California’s almond orchards are nearing hull split, University of California Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor and Director Brent Holtz says growers should consider irrigation changes to reduce the risk of hull rot.

Holtz said studies have shown that a 14 to 18 bar reduction in irrigation showed significant reduction in hull rot, when performed at the right time. That optimum time is about two to three weeks before harvest.
