US Customs and Border Patrol is in talks with Mexican officials to speed up inspections of fresh produce and other agricultural commodities at the border in Mexico by moving the screening process slightly away from the border.
A pre-screening facility in Mexico near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, east of the busy San Ysidro border crossing, has already been built. The first phase of the new project will be a pilot screening test. There is no official word on the facility’s opening.
