When to Harvest Meyer Lemons
Once you’ve grown your very own Meyer Lemon Tree or trees, they will need time to get adjusted to their new environment before they start producing fruit. Once lemons start to grow give them around 6 months to mature. Be careful not to harvest them until their skin changes from green to dark yellow.
Meyer lemons are a bit sweeter than regular lemons, with a discernible orange flavor. They can be used in place of regular lemons in many recipes, but keep in mind that they contain more sugar and less acid, and thus have a softer flavor than their famously sour siblings.
Meyer lemon peels are often thinner than other lemons, so they may require extra care when zesting.
To use Meyer lemon juice in place of regular lemon juice in your favorite cocktail, be sure to reduce the amount of sugar or sweet liqueur to balance out the cocktail and highlight the unique flavor of Meyer lemons.
Meyer lemons are so mild and sweet that you can use them simply peeled and sliced in fruits salads. Meyer Lemons also make wonderfully floral delicious Lemonade. Refreshing and easy Meyer lemon sorbet or Marmalade. They are also great when sprinkled on baked veggies and fish.
