Grocery prices are going up once again. The latest index shows the prices overall went up 1/2 a percent just in April with some foods far more than that. In fact, USDA food price economist, Ricky Volpe says we have seen more food price inflation just in the first four months of 2014 than we did
in all of 2013. Beef prices are especially soaring. Most foods don’t go up more than 2 or 3 percent in an entire year, but beef shot up 3 percent in April alone. Volpe says that is one of the largest increases we have ever seen, and from this time last year beef and veal prices are up on average 11 percent. So why the increase? Volpe explains some of the causes.
