A Monterey County program that aims to help veterans into agriculture careers is having a fundraiser this weekend. Sabrina Hill has more.
Brian Showalter and John Wagner both live in Monterey County and are veterans of the Marines. Both found that once they left the corps, it was hard to find other work. Showalter went to culinary school, then worked in agriculture. He discovered it was an industry that had a lot to offer and came up with the idea for a new program. Wagner joined him and the team co-founded Semper Fresh Farms. They are now working with several county and veterans agencies to create a program that will help train other veterans in agriculture. Wagner tells us about a fund raiser Semper Fresh is having.
The fundraiser is Saturday (June 28) from noon to 4 at Semper Fresh Farms. They are located at 384 Corral de Tierra Road, Salinas. There is no entry fee, but raffle tickets and other donation opportunities will be available.
