The deadline is quickly approaching to apply for scholarships through the Angus Foundation and American Angus Auxiliary. Applications must be postmarked by May 1, and Angus youth should act now to ensure their materials are in order.

High school seniors and college students passionate about the beef industry are encouraged to apply for the varied opportunities offered through the Angus Foundation and the American Angus Auxiliary. Each year the Angus Foundation offers general scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in higher education. Last year, the organization awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships.
Angus youth may apply for a wide variety of awards, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. As in past years, other specific and special criteria scholarships administered by the Angus Foundation will also be available.

The Allied Angus Breeders Scholarship is a new offering available this year that will provide $1,000 scholarships to three youth who use Angus genetics in their seedstock or commercial operations. The applicant or applicant’s parents/guardians must have transferred or been transferred a registration paper in the last 36 months (on or after May 1, 2012).

“Awarding scholarships at the National Junior Angus Show is a definite highlight for the Angus Foundation each year,” says Angus Foundation President Milford Jenkins. “We are thankful for our dedicated supporters who make these funds possible to help Angus youth with the ever-increasing costs to attend college. I can’t think of any better investment than in the education of our young people who will be tomorrow’s leaders and advocates for our Angus breed, beef cattle industry and country.”

Eligible Angus youth meeting the qualifications for the Angus Foundation’s 2015 Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Programs will be considered by the Angus Foundation’s Scholarship Selection Committee. Scholarship recipients will be recognized during the 2015 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Tulsa, Okla.

Applications must be postmarked by May 1, and mailed to the Angus Foundation, 3201 Frederick Ave., Saint Joseph, MO 64506.
More specific guidelines and information about the Angus Foundation’s scholarships and awards, along with a link to the undergraduate and graduate student applications, can be found online at www.angusfoundation.org.

The American Angus Auxiliary is committed to supporting Angus youth in their future endeavors and will once again award 10 scholarships at the 2015 NJAS. To be eligible, each state auxiliary nominates one male and one female applicant to the national contest. The American Angus Auxiliary then awards scholarships to the top five male and top five female applicants.
“The scholarship program is at the heart of everything we do as an organization,” says Carla Malson, American Angus Auxiliary president-elect and scholarship chair. “We are proud to invest in the future of our Angus youth and help them fulfill their dreams of higher education.”

Interested junior members who are high school seniors may download the application, access directions and general information at www.angusauxiliary.com. Applications from the state contact must be postmarked by May 1.
The winners will be announced during the 2015 NJAS closing ceremonies. In addition, the top five female scholarship winners are eligible for the 2015-2016 Miss American Angus competition, which takes place in November.
