Cathy Isom finishes out this week of celebrating food with one food holiday that you can literally have a ball. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Friday, March 9th is National Meatball Day. This unofficial food holiday is a perfect way to celebrate the little orbs of meat that makes so many dishes special. Whether you like them on your spaghetti, on sandwiches, or as an appetizer, they are a great addition to any meal or party food.
Meatballs can be made of ground beef, italian sausage, ground turkey, a mix of ground beef and pork, or even ground deer meat. Meatballs have both nutritional benefits and deficits. Though they often are high in fat and sodium, meatballs also provide minerals, vitamins and protein.
Some restaurants will offer specials on a side order of meatballs, while others will not charge donating money to non-profit organizations or homeless shelters.
So celebrate by serving up your favorite meatball recipe, or trying a new one. Then, post to social media using the hashtag #nationalmeatballday to share with friends and loved ones.
