Celebrating National Apple Month

October is National Apple Month. It’s a time to promote the sales of apples, as well as honor the people involved in getting them from the farm to our homes.

Some Apple gets squeezed to a fresh Apple Juice. Some Apple Trees are behind it.New York really is the Big Apple. New York is the second-largest apple producing state in the country. Only Washington State produces more apples than the Empire State. Perennially, Michigan ranks third; Pennsylvania and California round out the top 5.

There are more than 100 Apple varieties grown commercially in the United States, which include favorites such as Crispin, McIntosh, Fuji, Red Delicious, Gala, and Honeycrisp. One medium apple is about 95 calories, contains 17% of the recommended daily fiber, and includes vitamins B and C. Apples are one of the healthiest foods a person can eat and can reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Apples also contain no fat and cholesterol.
