Growers at the 2019 Almond Conference learned about a possible new fungal issue in orchards. Ganoderma Adspersum, a type of Ganoderma fungus that likes to eat reaction wood that trees make when wounded. UC Davis Plant Pathologist Bob Johnson said they identified the issue in Kings County in 2016 and growers are seeing more of it around the state. Johnson told AgNet West’s Brian German that avoiding wounds on younger trees is critical to avoid the fungus that can cause trees to snap off at the base.
