The election deadline for the Almond Board of California’s (ABC) Board of Directors is coming up in a few weeks. Ballots were officially mailed out to growers on April 21. ABC Senior Specialist of Industry Communications, Taylor Hillman said that votes will need to be cast by May 25.
“There were several positions this year up for grabs,” Hillman explained. “The Independent Grower #1 spot, which is a one-year term. The Independent Grower #2 alternate position which remained empty last year and we’re filling this year. And then the Independent Handler #1 which is a three-year term and the Independent Handler #3, which is a one-year swing.”
A detailed list of candidates and positions is available at Almonds.com/elections. Ballots have been sent out based on a comprehensive industry list. However, there are instances where information could be incorrect or needs updating. Almond growers that did not receive a ballot in the mail are encouraged to contact ABC to be able to participate in the voting process. “You can contact our elections group and tell them that you did not receive a ballot and we will get that out to you. You still have time to cast your vote,” said Hillman.
Replacement ballots will be sent out no later than five business days prior to the election deadline. Growers can also pick up replacement ballots at ABC. As the Board of Directors sets policy and approves budgets in priority areas, it is important for industry members to participate in the election process.
“Your vote counts and we want to hear from you. Cast your vote by May 25,” Hillman noted. “The election results will come out June 1 and then the Board will begin their new term August 1. They will be seated at the August Board of Directors meeting. So again, May 25 is the last day to vote.”
