Dowdy

Everett Griner talks about the world’s best farmer in today’s Agri View.

World’s Best

There is no such thing as “The World’s Best Farmer”. But if there were I would say that title belongs to a Georgia farmer, Randy Dowdy. Dowdy is not the holder of two world records. Corn and soybeans. On a three acre plot of his 2,000 acre farm, Dowdy harvested 171.8 bushels of soybeans back in September. That is the highest soybean average in the world. His previous record of corn was set just a few years back. Although he farms in the county that borders the one where I live, I have never met Mr. Dowdy but I do read of his accomplishments. How did he do it? Well, with good advice from his county extension agent and doing everything right. You don’t recognize the accomplishment until you realize the state average for soybeans is 37 bushels per acre. His record is four and one-half times the state average. How about that? World Champion.

That’s Agri View for today, I’m Everett Griner.
