Everett Griner talks about how quicker aid may be available to producers in today’s Agri View.
Quicker Aid
Congress writes a new Farm Bill every four years. The last one was in 2014 which wasn’t finished until 2015. A year later. That means the next one is due in 2018. Well, there has already been talk of a new Farm Bill this year. Both cotton farmers and dairy farmers had very little federal help in the last Farm Bill. As a result both have saw difficult times in the last three years. Cotton prices fell nearly forty percent in 2014 and farmers had no official program to help cover their losses. As a result finding any financial aid for their 2016 crop was hard. 2017 looks even tougher. Other crops have their own difficulties. So passing a bill this year would tend to boost all of agriculture a year sooner. And provide essential help for cotton and dairy farmers who need it badly.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
