Pollination Problems for Citrus

I told you yesterday about citrus greening being found young groves in Georgia and Alabama. Sure it is disappointing.

How many times have I reported on CCD in the honey bee industry? And, the fight goes on with no solution in sight for either enterprise. But, there is always hope. And, time will bring a solution.

Look at how long cotton farmers fought the boll weevil. But, persistence finally paid off. The destructive insect took a heavy toll on cotton crops across the nation for a century. But, in the end, persistence paid off. The boll weevil was not only controlled. It was eradicated. So citrus growers and honey bee farmers may have a while to struggle, but a solution will be found.

Compared to the boll weevil, the fight to grow citrus and pollinate crops has just begun.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
