Everett Griner talks about the farmer’s share of the family menu in today’s Agri View.
Farmers Share
You know very few of us who sit down for a meal at home ever stop to consider how much that meal cost. And only a small fraction of those who do ever stop to think about how much of the cost goes into the farmer’s pocket. Well here is how one form organization figures it. The 16 most common food items in ordinary meals averages about $50.00. Farmers receive about one-third of that cost. Now these figures have not been updated in recent years. But one recent study shows that both, what the family paid and the farmers share, have declined about 17 percent since the study was done. Most of the decline involved meat, eggs and dairy products. What about restaurant meals and other meals away from home? Family cost was more and the farmers share was less.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner
