Everett Griner talks about beef exports to Japan in today’s Agri View. Everett explains how the exports of beef to Japan grew last year and what consumer groups are targeting for Japan this year.
When you talk, or hear, about farm exports you usually think of China. That is reasonable. But pay some attention to Japan. You see, last year Japan imported over $7 billion dollars worth of United States beef. There are several ways to break that down. That figure rose by over $1 billion dollars last year.
Meanwhile, United States beef consumer staff members are helping to improve the sale of beef to Japan. Here is an example. You see, the favorite cut over there is an 8 ounce steak. This consumer group is trying to sell the public on an 18 ounce steak. That is what is most common in the United States. If successful, the beef exports can take another significant jump. So far, the effort is working. The U.S. cattlemen are pleased with the one pound promotion because it will add the beef exports to Japan.
That is what they want.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
