Everett Griner talks about California farming being a different business in today’s Agri View.
You know the picture of farming in California is rather a confusing one. One agri-official put it this way. “California is the most expensive place to farm in the whole country. Maybe the whole world.”
You know it is a state that is unfriendly to agriculture. Many people would like to see it disappear. But, the true fact is that the rest of the country cannot do without the food and the other crops produced by California farmers. Production costs are higher there, yes. There is a problem with air, and water quality, plus labor issues. But, everyone should understand that without California, crops like the tree nuts, rice, olives, and a lot of others would either not be available or would be to costly for the average family to afford.
So, the problem will not go away. Doesn’t look like it will anyway. I hope agriculture doesn’t suffer too much.
That’s Agri View for today, I’m Everett Griner…
