January meat beef exports
January exports of U.S. beef and pork were up significantly year-over-year, maintaining the solid momentum established in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to statistics released by USDA and compiled by USMEF.

Beef exports totaled 96,488 metric tons (mt), up 17 percent from a year ago, valued at $515.5 million – up 18 percent and the highest ever for the month of January. Exports accounted for 12.2 percent of total beef production and 9.5 percent for muscle cuts only – with both ratios being fairly steady with January 2016. Export value per head of fed slaughter was $256.62, up 7 percent from a year ago. Continue reading

U.S. pork and beef exports wrapped up an excellent 2016 performance with very strong December results, according to statistics released by USDA and compiled by USMEF.

Pork export volume reached a record 2.31 million metric tons (mt) in 2016, up 8 percent year-over-year and 2 percent above the previous high in 2012. Export value increased 7 percent from a year ago to $5.94 billion. December pork exports totaled 222,635 mt, up 18 percent year-over-year, valued at $564.2 million, up 20 percent. Continue reading

U.S. pork exports set a monthly volume record in November, helping overall U.S. red meat exports build momentum. Both beef and pork exports were 20 percent higher than last year in both volume and value. Statistics compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation show that November pork exports totaled 225,757 metric tons, up 24 percent year-over-year and breaking the previous record set in 2012. Export value was just shy of $587 million, 30% higher than a year ago and the highest level since May of 2014. Pork export volume was up 7 percent from January to November, compared to a year ago. U.S. pork production is reaching record levels but exports are still accounting for a larger share of the production. Continue reading
