SMUD, Cal Expo and the California State Fair welcome Olli, just in time for Kid’s Expo on April 6 and April 7, 2019 . Two self-driving shuttles will pick up people from the parking lot and will bring them to the gates beginning this weekend and will continue at events through the 2019 California State Fair, July 12 thru July 28.
SMUD is a partner of the 2019 California State Fair and is responsible for bringing Olli to Cal Expo and the CA State Fair.
“We are excited to be a part of testing autonomous vehicles in Sacramento. Electric vehicles play a large part in helping us reduce our emissions and increase efficient mobility in the region. As we work to make Sacramento a hub of innovation for alternative vehicles, we look at all options and where those technologies can best be deployed,” Lupe Jimenez, SMUD.
Olli is the brain-child of Local Motors. The autonomous shuttle is an environmentally-friendly vehicle designed to change the future of mobility.
“Using Olli at events like this is another great example of how Olli can meet the needs of a mobile public,” Matthew Rivett, executive vice president at Local Motors, said of the shuttle’s deployment at Cal Expo.“We continue to see success with this type of application for the shuttle, from Sacramento to Australia, where Olli is able to serve riders in a safe, efficient and completely autonomous way. We’re excited to introduce Cal Expo visitors to a self-driving future.”
