Everett Griner talks about farmer suicide rate in the United States in today’s Agri View. Everett goes on to question, as the statistics show, whether some of the suicides were an accident, or suicide.
I’ve never mentioned this subject before. I will likely not mention it again. Farmer suicide. It is 5 times higher than the national average. Much higher than celebrity status suicide. It is even higher than the military. The logical question is, why?
There is more than one reason. Among them are; income worries, isolation, market fluctuation, and a half-dozen other reasons. The fatality rate is higher than any other occupation.
The suicide rate varies in different parts of the country. I will not say where the highest rate is. Here is one reason the rate is so high. Many cases are listed as accidents. Now, I am wondering if many of those suicides wasn’t in fact an accident.
Now, I will not mention this subject again.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
