World Dairy Expo is pleased to announce changes to its 2016 Youth Fitting Contest. The changes include the addition of an Intermediate Division for participants ages 13 to 16 years old on the day of the contest. Both the Intermediate Division and the current Senior Division, ages 17 to 21 on the day of the contest, will be split into Male and Female divisions for the first time this year.
“We hope that by lowering the age of the fitting contest and by adding a division for women, that we will get more participants, and we will watch the youth learn as the contest grows,” remarks Katie Coyne-DeBruin, Youth Fitting and Showmanship Superintendent.
The Youth Fitting Contest will be held on Sunday, October 2, at 10 a.m. in the Estrumate Sale Pavilion. Participants may register up until 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.
Meanwhile, the Youth Showmanship contest will remain the same as previous years and is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, beginning at 6 p.m. – or following the conclusion of the day’s Breed Shows. The registration deadline for this contest is Wednesday, October 5 at 5:00 p.m.
As in past years, youth participants do not need to be an Expo dairy cattle exhibitor to participate in either of these events. However, the animal used for the contest must be selected from the entries that are on grounds. For the full list of contest rules, details and to register, visit worlddairyexpo.com.
