Soil salinity is a major concern for almond growers, and the lack of quality water could be exaggerating the problem.

Water Quality Contributing to Salinity

University of California Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor, and contributing author to the Almond Doctor blog, David Doll says soil salinity is high right now and growers need to be careful with where they are getting their water from. Some west side growers are relying on canal water and Doll says that water needs to be tested so it can be applied effectively to avoid salinity issues. Doll added that damage can be done to the tree from high salinity before a grower sees any physical signs.
