USDA Provides Update on Avian Influenza Outbreaks

Since December, there have been several ongoing, highly pathogenic avian influenza H5 incidents along the Pacific, Central and Mississippi flyways. Cases in wild birds, captive wild birds, backyard poultry or commercial poultry have now been reported in 16 states: Arkansas, California, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Dr. John Clifford, USDA chief veterinary officer, provided an update during a teleconference this morning.
