Stanislaus County Farm Advisor Roger Duncan spoke at the recent almond symposium held in Kerman. He went over several aspects of putting in a successful orchard. He said a major consideration when planting is light interception.
Duncan said the higher the light interception, the higher the yield. He said another major consideration is tree spacing. He said closely planted trees are smaller. And, he said smaller trees tend to have fewer problems, are easier to prune, and easier to shake, and have other benefits.
